Import your members from Excel or Google Sheets
Bring your existing member list into ChurchBright in a few minutes, with families, tags and custom fields.
You do not need to type your members in one by one. If you have a list in Excel, Google Sheets or another system, you can import it.
Prepare your file
- Save or download it as a CSV file.
- Put column headings in the first row, for example First name, Surname, Phone, Email, Date of birth, Gender, Address.
- One person per row. If you have a single "Name" column, that is fine — ChurchBright can split full names.
- Dates can be written like 25/12/1990 or 1990-12-25.
Import
- Go to People → Import.
- Upload your CSV file.
- Match each column to a ChurchBright field. Common headings are matched automatically; check them and choose Skip for anything you do not need.
- Choose the status for everyone in the file (for example Member) and their branch.
- Tick Skip duplicates to ignore rows whose phone number or email already exists.
- Click Import.
Families, tags and custom fields
- Map a column to Family / household name and people with the same value are grouped into one family.
- Map a column to Tags (comma separated) to tag people as, for example, Choir or Ushers.
- Create custom fields first under Settings → People & fields; they then appear in the column list.
After importing
Open People and sort by Newest to review what came in. Use Find duplicates to merge anyone who was entered twice. Remember your plan's member limit — rows beyond it are skipped and the summary tells you how many.
